How the heck do I remove the front dolly wheel on a JD 640 side-delivery rake? The hub is captive between the two forks, so thought I could just slide the axle out, after removing the nut. Axle has a nut on one end, and a thin square head welded on other end. But nothing will budge. Maybe bearings are rusted? Maybe there's some other trick to it? Thought I'd ask before applying too much persuasion (sledgehammer) and busting something.

The new implement tires are exatly like the tires pictured in my original JD 640 owner's manual and original JD sales brochure. The dolly wheel tire is a 16' truck tire. Today's Featured Article - Massey Ferguson 35 (and up) Tractor Assembly Notes - by Jack Wetmore. These assembly notes are for Massey Ferguson tractors with a two stage clutch and 6 speed, 8 speed and mutli-power transmissions. I see a lot of discussion forum messages regarding damaged clutches from improper assembly. The objective is to have the engine and transmission slide together safely and easily until the gap between the two halves is less than 1/4', BEFORE tightening any of the bolts holding the two together. Using bolts to draw the two halves together will damage the PTO ... [Read Article]
